“I’m Almost Relieved to Have Found Myself in an Actual Accident,” Ra Ebrahim

I’m Almost Relieved to Have Found Myself in an Actual Accident
By Ra Ebrahim

Around the hairpin turn I felt
my life fall quite neatly off
the bone. There was nothing to be
done about it, one minute I was there and the next.

The chrome heap. The bloodied shine
of newly anointed metal, gleaming in the sunlight.
The shattered glass and the halo shot
through the windshield.
The ground now consecrated with the
gore of molars strewn about,
promising no more.

Everything scraped out.
At last,
what luck.
