“New Directions,” Grace Guerrero

New Directions
By Grace Guerrero

Something stirs beneath my feet
and I hear the pavement crackle.
The road splits and I remember
life is not a straight line,
but one that swings in directions
only the earth knows.

It is not my body’s job
to have all the answers,
and I will not push it down a path
it does not belong.

Grace Guerrero (She/Her) writes between her backyard in Jackson, Mississippi and a busy plaça in Barcelona, Spain. Shaped by grief, motherhood, and the natural world, she writes about the people and places that hold us, and what happens when we lose them. You can find her poems on Instagram @gracewithherflowers and more of her writing on Substack @kindersea.
